When Sarah and I first began working together, anxiety, overwhelm and low self-belief were affecting many different areas of her life.
Over the past year, our sessions have taken us through work, relationships, animals, confidence, difficult experiences from the past and the challenges life continues to throw her way.
This is Sarah's experience, in her own words.
I've been working with Sharon for the last year, and when I look back at the person I was when we first started, I honestly don't think I realised just how much I needed those sessions.
I was negative, constantly anxious and overwhelmed by life. I could get completely tripped up by the slightest hurdle. I'd had some pretty difficult experiences over the previous 30 years and, although I genuinely thought I had dealt with them and accepted them, I hadn't. Then along came the menopause, just to add another bloody layer to the mix! 😂
A huge part of my anxiety has been animal-related, which is something Sharon completely understands. Because she is an animal lover herself, she gets why things that might seem small to somebody else can feel absolutely enormous to me. That understanding has been invaluable.
Support for the whole of life
Over the last year, we've worked through so much more than just work or friendships. It really has been a complete mixture of life, relationships, animals, confidence, self-belief, difficult situations, things from the past, things happening in the present, and all the random stuff life decides to throw at you when you're already struggling to keep your head above water!
My confidence and self-belief were a huge area for me. Procrastination was awful because, somewhere in my head, I was constantly waiting for something bad to happen. I could turn a tiny problem into a massive mountain before I'd even taken the first step.
Now, I have tools Sharon has taught me that I can actually use when things happen. Probably one of the biggest changes is that I can come back to our sessions and say:
“This happened… and actually, I dealt with it really well.”
That feeling is huge.
The problems didn't disappear—my response changed
It's not that life suddenly became easy or that things stopped happening. They absolutely haven't! 😂 It's that I now deal with them differently.
What once felt like a mountain can become a tiny little bump in the road, and I can often shut things down without the anxiety, overthinking or complete meltdown that would have happened before.
I'm convinced Sharon has a secret stash of popcorn for our sessions because sometimes it feels like absolutely nothing is on my side! 😂 But she has waded through this rollercoaster with me, topic after topic, and somehow always helps me find a way through it.
Sharon is incredibly down to earth and doesn't beat around the bush. I can tell her when I don't feel comfortable with something, I can challenge things and, most importantly, I can be completely and utterly myself. She is the only person I feel I can be 100% honest with without worrying about being judged.
Learning that I matter too
I've also finally learned that I need to make time for me. Even if it's only five minutes a day, I now understand that I'm worth that five minutes.
And I'm certainly not giving up my sessions any time soon!
Having that regular time to sit down with someone who knows me—to talk through the week, fortnight or month, look at what went well, what I could have done differently and what I've learned from things that have happened—is something I genuinely value.
Sharon isn't just someone I go to when everything has gone wrong. She has become a mentor, a sounding board and someone who helps me recognise just how far I've come.
This past year has been a rollercoaster, but I'm not the person who started it.
I'm stronger. I have more confidence in myself. I understand my own thoughts and reactions so much better, and I've learned that I don't have to let every hurdle become a crisis.
If you're busy, stressed, overwhelmed and feel like you're constantly dealing with one issue after another, Sharon is the coach you need.
“She doesn't promise to make life perfect; she teaches you how to handle life when it isn't.”
And for me, that has been absolutely priceless.
